Navigate U Timeline

The timeline below outlines the milestones for the Navigate U project at the University of Utah.


Months

Spring 2023

Navigate U Introduction


The University of Utah began its partnership with EAB in May 2023 to enhance student support systems, build data and analytic capacity, and improve the student experience. The foundational approach was developed to guide adoption.

Summer 2023

Strategizing and Kickoff


The University of Utah identified the implementation team to launch Navigate, including the project manager, tech team, and data engineers, plus points of contact across campus. The data infrastructure was established in June 2023 to connect Navigate to the Student Information System.  

Fall 2023

Navigate and Edify Implementation


Phase I users, including select student services units and advisors, attended trainings and explored the scheduling, notes, and referral features. Edify implementation kicked off with discussions on the scope, insights, and goals of the platform. A ticketing system and Office Hours were established for technical support.

NISS Kickoff


In November 2023, the University of Utah began its partnership with the National Institute for Student Success (NISS) to identify student barriers across the institution.

Spring 2024

Restructured Hub


A shared services model was launched in Spring 2024 to streamline the student services in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, the College of Humanities, and the School for Cultural and Social Transformation.

Navigate Implementation for Colleges


Between January and May 2024, all University of Utah schools and colleges began using Navigate for undergraduate student support. 

Advising Campaign Calendar


In April 2024, the Academic Advising Standards Council (AASC) approved the Advising Campaign Calendar to establish proactive, coordinated, and consistent student communication in Navigate. 

Student App Launch


The mobile app, Navigate Student, that accompanies the desktop student site was launched in May 2024. 

NISS Final Report Released


The final NISS report was released in May 2024, with several town halls scheduled to discuss the findings and recommendations.

Summer 2024

Orientation


During Summer New Student Orientation, students were prompted to download the Navigate Student app to connect with their academic advisor. 

Activate Sessions


The recommendations from the NISS report spurred Activate sessions over the summer. Institutional leadership developed actionable plans to address student barriers, which are outlined on the Activate Projects page here.

Fall 2024

Optimized Usage


The implementation team shifted focus from standing up the Navigate and Edify platforms to optimizing usage and increasing the breadth and depth of engagement across campus.

Campus-wide Coordinated Proactive Academic Advising Training


In September 2024, the Campus-wide Academic Advising Training & Development, Academic Advising Standards Council, and Navigate Hub for Exploring Students conducted a ten-part training series for all University of Utah academic advisors and their supervisors. Training topics covered were best proactive academic advising practices, academic advising tools, institutional policies and processes, and improving student outcomes.
